My first submission to WOTF got an honorable mention. Yay me!
Even though it didn't win, I still love the story and the ideas behind it, and I'd like to see it published somewhere so others can enjoy it. It's a longer piece at 16,884 words, which I realize makes it harder to publish. But I was wondering if there are any paying magazines or high-quality online markets that would be worth submitting to. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks!

Cool! I didn't know this existed.
Is it worth mentioning that this story got an honorable mention from the Writers of the Future contest in the cover letter, or does that make it seem like the story has already been rejected and not worth reading?

HMs are rejections, yeah. It’s a nice spot of encouragement for us, but don’t put it in the cover letter.

What Becky said, RusticBohemian. But do hang it up on your wall and be proud. Thousands entered that quarter from around the world. Your story rose to the top of the heap! As Kevin J. Anderson told me long ago when I attended the gala held in Seattle, "Getting even one HM in Writers of the Future is a Big Deal. They don't hand those things out lightly. Honorable mentions in Writers of the Future really mean something."
