All R, no HM?

Postby Dustin Adams » Thu Jan 05, 2012 10:49 am

This is me offering to read three Q3 stories - all from folks who have received nothing but rejects, and are still looking for their first HM.

Here's what I ask in return:

Post your willingness to participate below. (Or if you wish to remain anon, PM me and I will post that a slot has been filled.)
No need to mention R count. If it's one, or ten, W/E, just that you've yet to break through to the HM level.
Don't send me a hot off the press draft. If you finish, put it away for a few days, or print it and read the hard copy and make self edits, etc. Give it a 2nd look.
Send to me in .rtf

If you can follow those rules, I will do my best to get your story back to you as quickly as possible, laced with my opinion, for good or ill.

This offer is good until the end of May. After that I will probably be scrambling with my own entry, and may not have time to read others. wotf029

I'm interested! I haven't started my Q2 entry yet, but I know what I'm going to be doing with it, so I should be able to get it done in time.

A note to the two folks whose stories I've yet to receive.

This month is a little batty for me, what with an actual vacation planned for next week and all.

So - you may send your story to me whenever - but I may not be as speedy as we'd both like at returning it to you.

However, if you'd like to skip Q2, my offer stands for Q3, or whatever Q you'd like to send your story my way.

Patrick,

You may send to me. I'll PM you my e-mail.

However, with my vaca coming up in a few days - I can't guarantee I'll have it back before I leave. However, I will try.

Hi all,

I'm starting my offer anew for Q3.

My workload at my day job has exploded, so we're looking at at least a week turnaround, but I'll do my best.
Once my own Q3 is done I'll have more time to read others.

So, if you'd like to participate:

List your name under this post or PM me. wotf046

I would be interested in participating, unfortunately I have only just begun writing my Q3. I'm going to try working extra hard this quarter to get it done early. Hopefully I'll have my story ready by your deadline for the end of May.

Me please! (If you have a spot left.) I hope to be finished by the end of this month.

The only people that have read my stuff before are my two readers who both know me really well, so this will be an interesting experience! Cheers to you for the offer!

But hey, I am still waiting on Q1 results, what happens if I win, is the offer rescinded? wotf001

Hi Ember,

You're the third slot for this quarter.
I'll PM you my e-mail.

If you get an HM before you send your story, I'd ask to defer to someone who has yet to get one.

Believe me, getting an HM would be a much bigger prize than getting a crit from me. wotf011

Hi Zali,

I'd love to do more, but I'm all booked up for this Q. wotf005

Plus I have a whole other writer's group I'm in for WotF, so I'm pretty slammed. wotf029

Hi Zali,

If you fill the criteria and you're happy that I'm not a quick critiquer, I'm happy to step in.

Yes, I must agree, your thoughts on the story will really help me when I decide to submit this piece. Thanks a bunch, Dustin.

Yeah, he probably doesn't need it ( wotf011 ), but I'll add another endorsement for Dustin's excellent critiquing abilities. If he's still offering this deal next Q, I highly recommend those who are eligible to jump on it.

Aww, thanks everyone. wotf032

Actually, I stole this idea from Nick T, so I find humor in seeing him here copying my copy of him.

Just after his win, he jumped in, uh, might have been Google + at the time and offered a few crits to folks just getting started on the pyramid to winning.

So as long as I've got that finalist under my belt, and there's not much chance it's going away, then I'll probably keep offering.

It's never too soon to start paying it forward! I've started doing a lot more crits as well. Swaps, but also just when I have time to spare. Not that I'm an expert critiquer, but I try my best.
