Honorable Mention-not exactly what I was hoping for, but I'll take it for my first go-around.

Honorable Mention.
For there is death in the sound of it, and a glamorous fatality, like silver pennons downrushing at sunset, or a dying fall of horns along the road to Ronceveaux.

HM here as well - which I'm actually really excited about, as my piece was my first attempt at writing (rather than just reading) sci-fi. I'm normally contemporary YA

Hey - I got mention... but not just mentioned... NO Way... I got mentioned honorably. And i did so in the company of people whose skills I respect. It be another link in the coat of arms I fashion to make better for war. The recog is an additional symbol to adorn the family crest and wear with pride to matters of state. It's yet another neural bullet to fire at the dreaded doubt aliens as the approach from the far off planet of Giveitallup.
Okay - a little melodrama for the moment. Good luck to all on the next quarter!

Re: Quarter 1, vol. 29
Via individual query:
"Your story did not place."
Looking it over, I don't violate any of the rules for quick rejection. Spec element up front, smells, no typos, character name and brief description...
But this was the story I forgot to put the title in the header/footer on every page.
Maybe it was rejected out of hand for not following the contest's rules. Unfortunately I'll never know. Or will I?
My plan is to fix rules violation, rename, and submit to Q1 v.30.
So in around 9 months, I'll know if it's truly not a fit for the contest, or if following the rules is extra important to a guy on a strict deadline.

Hey Annie, you're not allowed to submit anymore to WOTF, are you? You've got four sales with DSF. Just curious, and congrats on that. (Despite your last "educational rant" to me, I still think you should keep plugging away at the professional publishers with your novels. Grisham got something like 100 rejections on A Time to Kill).
