Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
Saw Avengers today and speaking of one particular Avenger...anyone hear anything about the Green Arrow TV show?
And anyone know anything about AT&T's "Daybreak"?

Not sure about "Day Break," but I did see the news about "Green Arrow." It could be interesting, but I think they're trying for a "Smallville" clone, and by the end of it, I just couldn't get into "Smallville" anymore.
How did you like Avengers?

Yeah, I had a blast. If you don't actually pay too much attention to the plot, it's amazing.
Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
I loved the Avengers they did the large and small things very well. I didn't mind the plot either.
And speaking of "Daybreak" Evidently someone has a 12 sided object of power. More on the link.

I know the internet is in turmoil and thinks this is the end of the world, but I'm like "Hey! More Star Wars movies!

I'm with you. To me, more Star Wars is a good thing!

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
Now it looks like a whole series of SW movies.
But even though they are supposedly starting the first movie now it won't be shown 'till 2015.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

Well, it's horror genre. But if you enjoy a truly disturbing, scary vibe ... I'd say catch up with this one (they're at episode 3 I think? They repeat past episodes night of new ones too)
It's by the guy who does the teen musical GLEE too. But it's not the same. At. All.

Hahahaha, Strycher, I thought the same thing! I'm pretty excited, and will always be a fan - I will be in line to see the next one, definitely.
Soooo...I know it's not really on TV, but is anyone else getting amped up for The Hobbit? I. Can't. Wait.

Yes! I am. LoR was one of my favorite movie trilogies of all time, so I can't wait to see what Peter Jackson does with the Hobbit. I know it's a different kind of story, even though it's set in the same world, but I'm just as excited

I was on board for most of the first season...until everything and the kitchen sink hit the fan and I started thinking about how silly, jarringly uneven and unsatisfying the whole season had been. I tried season 2 for the first episode...but yeah it just lost me.

I can see why people *do* like it though. Hats off to dedicated fans out there.
The Hobbit looks awesome....but did they really need to make another trilogy?
Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
Yeah, I think it's odd that they're making it into a trilogy. I know there was a lot of activity that was sort of glossed over in the book - like the entire war - so I'm guessing they're expanding that. Still, that's a lot of screen time to fill...
I really hope that it's as amazing as the trailer makes it look.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
there's a lot of source material that Tolkein retconned into the Hobbit and the surrounding world, the necromancer and such, so there is material to expand the story out, but on the other hand there is peter jackson's King Kong. King Kong is exhibit A in that Jackson can become too self indulgent as a filmmaker. It was an okay 3 hours movie with a really good two hour movie hiding indie it.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
It's true that three movies could be a sign of over-indulgence on Jackson's part. That would be a bit of a let down. Hopefully though, he draws sufficiently on other materials to make it a great trilogy. I wonder what the impact of using those other materials will/would be on the tone of the movie vs. the book?

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
It's very difficult to pack a whole novel into a movie; a movie may be fine for a novelette. Both LOTR and the Harry Potter movies felt at times like some sort of summary of the books. I think Peter Jackson is awsome and if he has the capacity of three movies he can make a really great Hobbit.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
I do find it funny though that "The Hobbit" as a book is a fraction of the length of any of the other LOTR trilogy books, self contained and yet it's being stretched into two movies (with the third one being the expanded universe material, or the material will be incorporated throughout this new trilogy? I think I heard Smaug only really show up at the end of the Hobbit and then fully in the second movie.)
Anyways I do recall Peter Jackson saying what a physical and mental toll the LOTR trilogy took on him and after taking on this new herculean task...I wonder if he'll be content to go back to the wacky b-movies he used to be known for :)

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
It IS sort of weird...
I have a huge amount of trust in Peter Jackson after the LotR trilogy. King Kong was...eh...I'd rather just forget it happened. I walked out of the theater like this:
Anyone seen Cloud Atlas yet? I've heard really mixed reviews.

I've been hearing a lot lately about BSG: Blood and Chrome. The original re-imagined series (does that make sense?) was fantastic, but I never got around to watching Caprica so I'm not sure if I'll hit up Blood and Chrome or not.
Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
Caprica was really good. I wish it hadn't been canceled.

I didn't realize Caprica had been cancelled, which shows how out of the loop I am on TV of late. I do miss having an ongoing scifi show to watch though. Does anybody else feel like there's been something of a dearth the last year or two? Although I did catch some Falling Skies recently...the execution isn't always perfect, but i have to admit I've liked what I've seen so far.

Big Tolkien fan here. Can't wait for the Hobbit.
The delightful Benedict Cumberbatch is doing the voice of Smaug you know. I'm not sure who's looking forward to that more, me or the Gator.
I think I'm going to have to get the smelling salts out for scaly chops.

Isn't he also playing the Necromancer?

Clearly I missed that. Too distracted by the prospect of a smooth-voiced, pin-up dragon.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.
He's playing the villain in the upcoming Star Trek movie too, right?
Does anyone know if Smaug is even appearing in film #1, now that it's split into 3? I notice on IMDB he's listed as the voice of the Necromancer in film #1, but not for the first film as Smaug.
I want to see Smaug. Now.
