I just got word this morning that I won the powerball. (Well, okay, I won $4. Literally, just the powerball number...)
More seriously, and more excitingly for me, I also received word that my short story "Raising Words" is going to be included in the Japanese mythology themed issue of Penumbra. As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a Japanese culture junkie, so I'm particularly excited to be in that issue in particular.
Congratulations, that's awesome!
And, yes, I sold my WotF semi-finalist to Fireside last fall. More recently I sent the editor a flash and received back a very nice rejection today that he enjoyed the story but it wasn't a good fit for the market.

Yeah, Stewart! I was already looking forward to reading that issue--now doubly so.

Thanks, all. The 3ish form rejections I've received since then sting less than usual.

You sell a story to a Japanese themed anthology? I'm shocked, I say, shocked! (Congratulations!)

I guess so, something like that. It was published 10 days later than the date in my contract, so I guess yours might be the same.

Re: Success!
Congrats, Elinor. I'll find some time to read it.
Cosmos is a good market. I know the fiction editor, Cat Sparks. She's an excellent writer. Her own collection has just been released by Ticonderoga.

Thanks guys. And yes, Steve, I'm pretty pleased with Cosmos being my first sale. I knew Cat Sparks' name before she bought that story, I know she's well respected.
