Ishmael wrote:Round about this time last year I had my first published story, which was a tiny 200 word flash piece in AE Micro. Inevitably, I suppose, I then went through the overconfidence phase (everything that I submit will sell,) followed by the under-confidence phase (nothing that I submit will sell.) Just as I was getting to the stage of believing that it was hardly worthwhile submitting at all, along comes a perfectly ordinary email with a perfectly ordinary 'Re. ...' heading. So inconspicuous that it almost got overlooked.
And it says that AE would like to buy a 2,900 word SF that I sent them.
I figure that there has to be something that keeps you writing, even when there doesn't seem a whole lot of point to it, except to please yourself with the worlds that you can create.
And I want to thank Rebecca once again for a very helpful critique of this one back in July.
It appears that getting a story to the publishable stage can take me a while!

I still believe in submitting to pro markets first, but last week I discovered Mad Scientist Journal in The Grinder and I knew I just HAD to write something for them.
I had a lot of fun writing it so I'm glad they liked it.
