I am 42 and living in Utah. I have been wanting to submit to WOTF for almost 30 years now. I first discovered it as a young teenager on the grocery store book shelves when Volumen III was fresh out. Dave Wolverton (or Farland) won that year with his On My Way To Paradise story. I dreamed of entering for almost a decade after that, but never finished a story I felt could win.
I recently attended a Comicon where Wolverton spoke about the WOTF contest, and it got me excited again.
So it only took me 30 years of dreaming about this contest off and on, to finally get a story together that was worthy to enter. Now the waiting begins.
Welcome to the contest and welcome back to your dreams.

Yeah. It's all I seem to be able to think of for the last day and a half. These next three months are gonna grind so slow.

How about you, then? Are you by any chance Greek or of Greek origin, or you're just a fan of the goddess?
I'm not remotely Greek, and I've never been to Greece. I'm just a big fan of hers.
That's nice! She is the protectress of our city, after all.

Welcome, Tyler!
The best way to alleviate WOTF anxiety is to spend your free time writing many new stories and submitting them to many other markets.

Hi!
Just obeying the All-Cap instruction above.
And I just wanted to say I really respect the community you guys have built here - there's a ton to learn from reading the collective sharing that happens on this board and I hope to contribute in some small way at some point. I'd also like to get in on some Word exchanges at some stage in the future and will look forward to posting in the right spot for that.
(I am though what the youngsters call a Newb...)

Welcome aboard, Galen! For what it's worth, I never call anyone a Newb. (But then it has been years since anyone called me a youngster.)

Hello all,
I'm Darin, this quarter will be my first entry as a contestant. I was invited as a guest for the last award ceremony and loved the energy and comradery of the group. I look forward to seeing you all again, this time as a fellow writer and artist.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hi all,
I'm a relatively new writer, and writing a story to enter this contest has been a goal of mine since I heard about it last year. So I'm doing a personal victory dance right now because I just submitted my first entry!
I'm truly amazed with the friendliness and supportiveness I've seen in this forum. I lurked for a month to find some info about the contest and then hopped aboard two weeks ago when I discovered the neat Story Critique Exchange section. Technically, I've "met" some of you already through the exchange, and I have to give kudos to s_c_baker for coming up with the absolutely brilliant "first 450" idea. So thank you to everyone who's helped me with my submission this quarter, and I hope to "meet" more of you in the future.
Ellie

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hi there,
I am brand new to the forum today! I entered my first WOTF contest for Q2 this year. Not sure what it really means in terms of quality but I received an Honourable Mention for the story. I am pleased as I only started writing in September 2014.
Wishing everyone the best of luck in their endeavours and pleased to be here.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hi! I'm a newbie. I haven't actually submitted to the contest yet, although I am *strongly* considering it. (By that I mean that I fully intend to submit a story I've been working on but I'm not sure it's 100% ready yet. I'm still in the giddy "I just finished!" stage.)
If you're looking for a little bit of background: I'm 30 years old and, while I've taken a long hiatus, I spent a lot of time on writer's forums during my late teens and college years. I'm married and have a sort-of-full-time job (retail is funny that way).
I enjoy reading almost anything so long as it's well written. I prefer to write science fiction and fantasy, but both of those genres are broad enough to encompass a lot of different elements.

Welcome disgruntledpeony!
Congrats on finishing your story! I hope you'll submit it :) I wouldn't worry too much about getting it 100% ready, because I really think there is no such thing. Sometimes the best thing you can do is send it off and get busy learning and creating with the next story. Write, write, write as they say
Best of luck and again welcome

I have been lurking here for about a year and finally registered in April, but shamefully, this is my first post. Sorry for stalking without sharing. I have appreciated all the perspectives given here. It is a cozy place to hang out.

Hi everybody,
I'm new to the forum and looking forward to participating. But I have a couple of questions. How do I create a signature here on the forum or upload an avatar? I see a lot of you have those, but I can't find those options on my control panel. Thanks!
Rachelle

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Welcome Rachelle,
When you're signed in, on the left side, under the L in L. Ron - under the W in Writers, under the up arrow in Board index, is User Control panel.
Click that.
Go to the Profile tab
From there, on the left side you will see options to edit signature and edit avatar.
You'll need to have an avatar uploaded first, and I believe the max size is 100x100 pixels. But it can be smaller.
Then type the URL for wherever on the Internet that pic resides, and you're good!

Hello, all!
I'm Anthony and I'm brand new to writing. I completed my first story ever and decided to submit it to WotF after hearing so much about it while studying the craft of SFF writing. I've got tons of ideas for more, so I'm hoping I can be a regular submitter (and rejectee) here!
