Dust Bunnies of Doom!

Okay, so if you've been on the "Story Titling" page, you know that the title "Dust Bunnies of Doom" was suggested, and LaurieG just brilliantly suggested we challenge ourselves with a flash fiction contest based off that title.

She suggested the deadline be next Sunday, the 17th.

Shall we ALL take that up that challenge?

Will chaos ensue? Probably.

Where to post the stories? And Emily called it a contest, so that means a prize. (She also called me brilliant. Thanks!)

And who will judge? Maybe choose by votes, the way the Anlab works.

Well, considering they're going to be flash pieces, we could just post them on this thread. I don't see why not.

And okay, maybe "contest" wasn't the best word to use, because the only prize we could use would be bragging rights...or voting could actually work...

I told a non-writer friend about this today. She says we should send the winning story to the company that makes Endust, let the use/sell them the story as PR for them.

My only concern about posting the stories on this thread is that it would use up first publication rights. Something to keep in mind!

How about something similar to a story in day challenge where every participant emails their story to the others? After all, writing the story is the biggest prize of all.

I like it. That would also prevent the publication problem Rebecca mentioned.

I can see, in the future, some poor editor wondering where all these Dust Bunny stories are coming from.

Already started a story. Actually I had two ideas one is a full horror tale which I'm not sure about.

Anyway, actually years ago on another writing forum-might have been the AOL boards -someone wrote a practice story about dust bunnies. Very short. Not that much later I read another longer story but not by much, that was a horror tale.

Speaking of Dust Bunnies,
Former WOTF judge, KD was reading through a stack of stories. She picked one up, read the first sentence and tossed it in the rejection pile. Her husband protested, and asked her how she could pass judgment on a story so quickly. She showed him the sentence. Apparently, the main character was...you guessed it...a dust bunny! Still, I'm game. I mean, at the very least, we'd have a unique anthology!

A slight modification and the deep horror idea would become something more light hearted which would go with the ending. The other idea is about half way done.

I did the two stories I referenced-even though they have not been revised yet-with two completely different meanings to the word "doom". However only one is flash-At 580 words. The other is close to 1500

I decided that since it is no longer flash in any definition of flash, that I need to expand on a couple of points in the longer story which means it will be more 1750 words afterwards.

Then what? Enter it in Q4? (Shakes head) Somehow I don't think so, for a couple of different reasons.
