Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33
Nothing for me yet! I'm guessing that's a good thing!
My only other finalist was in Q3 VOl 22. I'm hoping that means I'll get a yearly round up circle?

What?! No way! Do you think he means finish the first round or finish the entire quarter? I haven't even been twitching because I assumed there would at least be another round of R's since no one who entered towards the end of the quarter has heard anything yet. But could this really mean he's almost done and all that's left is HM and higher? I will not twitch I will not twitch I will not twitch...
Guess I should post the list here I wasn't going to but if he's almost done...

Thanks for that, Laurie. That's GOT to be a contest record.
Got my Q1 certificate today after getting my 2015 Q4 last week...methinks they are catching up!
Best of success on Q3 to all still waiting, and to those that aren't, Q4, the clock is ticking. : )

Yep, he just commented on fb, in response to my comment, that each quarter has more and more entries, so it takes longer. But he says now he's moving fast.
Maybe this means they're all rejects, and he only reads the first page of each story.

He said on fb that he made it to Brisbane. Then, "Now I need to finish judging for Writers of the Future today!"
I congratulated him for getting caught up on judging. He said there's a lot of stories. "I'm getting done fast, though."
And it's thrilling to have a conversation with him about WOTF, even if he doesn't know me, or which story is mine.

I would have assumed he meant that he was through with the quick reject pile and on to the ones he has to read a bit first. But if he didn't mean that--And he meant that he was on to HM and higher, as you say--Then--Then--

This is way to scary for me. Might you have a spare brownie to sooth my anxious nerves?

I just asked Dave on a Q&A video exactly what he meant by his FB comment.
Not that I'm twitching, cuz I'm not, much.
He said he is through with his first pass and working on second pass. He has about 150 plus stories left then will narrow it down to about 40 stories to work through. He hopes to get to the Finalists by the end of this week, but it depends on his interruptions and scheduling while in Australia.
He said there were a LOT of stories and a LOT of good ones which will make it hard for him to cut it down.
I AM FREAKING OUT!

Haha...I've just read this sitting in a Costa coffee shop. Now running a fantasy number in my head where I'm standing on a table beseeching Joni to call me. All the while the Costa staff are busy on the phone trying to get me a ride in a 'special' taxi!!!

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q3 - Volume 33
I'm feeling strangely calm at the moment which is somewhat worrying actually. A few weeks back I was at the local mall with my wife and daughter and a group of kids ran by shouting "Shots fired!" I thought this to be very curious behavior. Meanwhile my wife was freaking out so we went into a store where they closed the gate behind us and led us out the back stairwell.
Turns out there were no shots fired, just a smash and grab on the other end of the mall, but my lack of reaction doesn't seem normal to me. I do like brownies though. And tables to hide under, but exit signs at the back of stores also give me comfort now.

Aren't those of us who have made it through the "First Pass" (No confirmation, just guessing.) waiting for good news, better news or great news?
I'll bake brownies while I wait, though. Or I'll cook up some almond toffee. Before it cools, I cover it with milk chocolate morsels and spread them out when they melt. Then I cover the top with grated almonds. After cooling, it can be broken up into pieces as large as needed to forget contest results.

Ah, you were at that mall that day. Your ŕeaction--staying calm and taking sensible action-- sounds eminently reasonable.

I like that way of looking at things.

Unfortunately, a first pass doesn't provide immunity from an R. I've gotten two late round Rs so far. They seem to hurt more than an early round R (I've gotten two of those as well).

I don't believe the 2nd round of straight R's has come out.
I could be wrong, but I think there's another big wave coming.
But we may not get the 1st pass e-mail this quarter if he's already winnowed to that small-ish number.
Speculation!

I think you're right. I'm no expert, but this first wave felt smallish. I think there are probably a lot more to come.
