Another lovely story that I recall having critted, Rebecca. I really love it, though I still don't understand why you call the artificial man clockwork!

Thanks, Storysinger, HLF, and Ishmael!
You did indeed, crit this one, Ishmael. I thought about the "clockwork" thing hard, and decided to keep it for the entirely not-great reason that it just plain sounds cool. Maybe the steam powers gears in there somewhere?

Congrats, Emily! (and I really admire your patience - 418 days!
I first saw it in the Grinder and was overawed.
Congrats, Rebecca! (and thanks for your earlier post!) I haven't gotten around to reading this one yet, but all your stories I've read are great, so I guess this one must be too
Print copies are nice, Aaron! I wasn't aware of MSJ selling print copies, I will check out if the volume I was in is available too. I've only got a print copy of my story in Bards & Sages Quarterly and I'm waiting for Galaxy's Edge, but I'd like to have another one! Well, I've got a couple of bookshelves filled with my stories in Greek editions, but I don't count those any longer

Re: Success!
And I have news of my own as well.
Achievement unlocked: after several attempts I finally managed to have a story accepted by Grievous Angel.
Bonus: it was the first of my micro-stories (100 words) to sell.
Extra bonus: this ended a dreary dry spell of over two months interspersed with a lot of excruciatingly frustrating personal rejections. Finally!

Congrats! I've tried to unlock Grievous Angel a couple of times without success. It is fun to sell a micro-story and ending a dry spell is always welcome although two months hardly qualifies in my mind.

Re: Success!
Congrats, Emily! I read it first thing in the morning, it was really good!
Thanks, Jason, Preston, Laurie, Aaron and Philip!
I started writing micro-stories for SpeckLit, but I had no luck there (Aaron has cracked that one, if I remember correctly). Anyway, SpeckLit is no more, so I had to find new markets for these stories, and Grievous Angel is great. This story was my only one that made it to FSI's second round, by the way, so it has to be good.
Meanwhile, most of the rejections I'm getting these days are almost raving. They keep telling me how great my stories are, and how sorry the editors are that they have to reject them, and how lucky will be the markets that accept them... Oh well, I'd rather they just bought the damn things

Thanks, Jason, Preston, Laurie, Aaron and Philip!
