Wow,

I have a first draft. It is a mess. I'm going to try to do another quick draft on it before diving into final edits on Q3.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
I have a couple stories started, but in all cases the plot has escaped me.
Not sure what I'll do with them. Maybe throw them at some readers for brainstorming.
I hate when characters insist I write about them and 500 words later look at me like I'm supposed to know what the heck is going on. It's your story, character. YOU tell me!

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
Got to start thinking on this one.
I originally said I might redo an older story. But I thought of a new story but now not sure which idea I meant. There is one story I started a few months ago and just started to work on again, but I don't know how long-short story, novella, novelette or book. At least no chance it would be a mini or flash story.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
I pulled up an old story that I thought had some major plot issues, so I stuck it in the trunk about four months ago. After hanging out with all of you folks for a couple weeks, I popped it open and realized that the only plot issue was in something I used to describe the world during the world-building process; it doesn't even come into play in the story. To say I'm pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.
With that said, anyone want to swap stories for feedback? As my location says, I'm out in the middle of nowhere and the nearest writing group is about 60 miles away so...

You probably want to edit that post to remove any details on your story, ysocks. It could end up resulting in disqualification due to the anonymous nature of the contest.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
I've got a great story idea for this quarter. A mix of two eclectic interests, that may well be nobody's cup of tea. Dave might not like it. But I hope I will like it. After struggling to maintain momentum in the last two quarters, I think it's time I started writing for myself again. I figure there's no point going through all this stress just for a story I don't even find particularly exciting. Much better to enjoy the story, so that when the rejections come in, I at least know that I got some enjoyment out of the writing itself.
I think I'm also going to be a lot more intentional about weaving in conflict throughout the story.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
No work on it yet. Even during my two week writing vacation I did nothing on WotF. I did finish a novel-now to find an copy editor who doesn't charge too much. But then again I did have a beta reader look it over. And worked on the revision of another novel, did 7 crits for critters, a few flash and minis stories too. But as I said zip on the contest.
Not even deciding what story to do. If I do not have an idea by Aug first I may redo an older story.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
Been doing other things like getting a novel ready for a proofreader-if I can find one. And revising yet another book. And a couple of short stories. And helping my wife with her dad. For the last three months or so his health has been failing. It started when he fell-I was with him-and couldn't get up. I got him up twice but he wouldn't stay up. So I call 911. Turned out to be A urinary tract infection that had gotten into his blood. They finally solved that but he still has problems walking. He fell a fourth time and broke four ribs--that was with 24 hour care but he had wanted to use the bathroom by himself. So His children decided to talk him into moving to a retirement center with assisted living. My wife is now going through his stuff to get his house ready to sell. Getting rid of furniture he now doesn't need and rid of lots and lots of paper work. Now we find his house has fleas, they seem to be very active all of a sudden. He never had any pets. So I have been watering his place and in some other ways helping.
More stuff going on but this is the condensed story.
Anyway: I decided to redo an older story. But the one I would like to do, I am not sure if I can make any better. I think it is a good solid tale with a twist I have never seen any one else do. Which of course doesn't mean they haven't. But it should still be rare. Sigh, I will see,

I'm up for it, although I'll need a couple of weeks or so to get my half of the trade ready. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll do my best to get to your story over the weekend.

Wwwwwwiii
Now I am not sure of two stories-I like both of them. One is SF and one is Fantasy which is all I will say about that.
There were two more. One might cyberpunk but I would have to lengthen it and add inner turmoil. That last might not be bad anyway. The other one I am still not against but it would need something deeper and probably more of a change in the MC. Not one of my favorites but still I kinda of like it.
Of course as my few stories show it doesn't matter what story I choose.

I wrote my rough draft, set it down for a few days, and when I re-read it I hated it because there are a ton of plotholes that I don't yet know how to fix.
