I also got a rejection. The rejection broke a streak of six HM's and one SHM... Not a good way to start the week

Whoa, very interesting. I like that Dave read it all the way through, and liked it. There's a ton of flash markets, so I bet it sells somewhere.
Congrats!

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34

I'm particularly excited about this one because I wrote and sent this in without any feedback. I've tried this several times in the past, all were straight Rs. Not a boost to one's self-confidence as a writer.
So this is good. I'm pleased.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
Just got my message from Author Services...Honorable Mention. Glad Dave liked it enough to read it all the way through! lol
Does anyone know how many submissions they received for Q4?

Dead cat R for me.
I seem to have a negative correlation between expectations and results with this contest. The stories I know will be Rs, get HMs and the ones I think I hit out of the park get Rs. Oh well. Next quarter's story is in my opinion so so, so who knows?
Congrats to the HMs and Silvers.

On the other hand, HM for all six stories that I rushed and got no critiques for. One HM took three days, idea to submission.

My first ever sub to WotF, fifth I believe overall. Though I don't know that I'd count the other subs except for the past two as I wasn't taking the writing very seriously. That's all changed as of this past summer, though (see my sig for details).
BTW, your Bloodsport avatar is the best ever.

R for me this quarter. I'm a little bummed because there's a lot about this story that I like, but apparently it's not hitting the right notes.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 34
I thought I'd posted my result already. Maybe I failed to press submit or something. Anyway I'm signing off from WotF with my eleventh HM, a batting average of .583 and a hitting streak of 12 consecutive entries.
Close but no cigar. Not much more than a whiff of a distant cigarillo. Fortunately there are other cigar stores.
My best wishes to those still with the scent in their nostrils, the clay pipe between their teeth and the light of battle in their eyes.
Please do not hesitate to call upon me for any help I may be able to provide. I'll be around and about, hoping to maintain contact with all of you who've helped sustain me on this lengthy odyssey and offer such sustenance as I can to those still rowing.

Joni said it was okay to "shout that you're a finalist from the mountaintops," and she hoped to have the winners notified soon. Welp, here goes being productive, right?

As soon as I got to my lunch hour today, I sent my HM story out into the markets to try and find a home. Guess we'll see if anyone is willing to adopt.

Philip,
You did great, had a good run with the contest, and proved you can be writing at pro level and still not win this contest. It wasn't for lack of trying, and you can be VERY proud. There is nothing wrong with pro-ing out, as that is the goal we are seeking anyhow--becoming professional writers. You are also in some beautiful books anyone would be proud to be in, proud to display, and that means you weren't just putting all your eggs in one basket. Congratulations on finding the right markets for your stories, and we know that will not be the last we hear from you. ESPECIALLY IF WE SIGN UP FOR YOUR BLOG...HINT HINT EVERYONE!
We wish you the very best on your career and hope you make good on your promise to hang around. That way, there's no goodbyes!
Cheers!
