Contest Rejections?

Postby karmstrong » Thu Jun 14, 2018 9:20 am

I have a silly question. Has anyone ever submitted a story that was rejected from the contest? This hasn't happened to me, I am just curious if every story submitted gets entered into the contest.

So every story submitted gets entered into the contest.

They all get judged by the first round judge, who "grades" them - most stories will get a rejection. They just weren't there yet!
Some will get an "Honorable Mention" - they're good stories, the judge read them all the way through
Some get a Silver Honorable Mention. They were even better.
8 or so make it to semifinalist. They were sooo close.
And 8 are picked as finalists! These go to a larger panel of judges, who select the top three stories as the winners for that quarter.

Does that answer your question?

You will get an immediate rejection if you forget to take your name and identifiers off the manuscript (double check page headers and file histories). Justice may not be blind, but this contest certainly is!
