Analog Rejectomancy?
Analog Rejectomancy?
Anyone know the rejectomancy at Analog? I've got a story there longer than the average rejection time. I mean, it's Analog, so I fully expect to get rejected at some point but have I made it past their slush reader to the next level? What's their process?

Well. For anyone who might find this thread in the future, I did find an online interview with Trevor Quachri, the current editor of Analog. Wow! He reads all the slush. That's amazing.

One good reason why their response time is 4+ months.

I've been wondering this about Deep Magic too. Since I first learned of it here on the WoTF forum I wondered if anyone here knows much about it and response times etc. Been watching progress on Submission Grinder but I know better than to put too many hopes on what I see there :)

Wulf does. I do know there are several layers and, at the higher level, some kind of group consensus process to what makes the final round.

I've had responses from Deep Magic that range from 4 days to 318 days. I queried on the two that were held over 200 days, and both times they told me that my story was being held for the board to review (both ultimately got rejected). Just to throw a wrench in the stats, my acceptance from them only took 10 days! Their guidelines say not to inquire for the first 6 months, but if yours has been longer than that, I would probably query. Good luck with it!
Re: Analog Rejectomancy?
Definitely hasn't been that long. Just watching and noticing some later submissions on submission grinder are starting to get rejections so that ever hopeful thing of trying to read meaning into something that may or may not mean anything :)
