Discussion: Q1 Volume 37
Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37
I'm in for Q1! I'm doing the Wulf Pack challenge, but I was given a bit of an exemption for this quarter because I just had a baby, so I'm behind on some of the challenge requirements right now... getting my Q1 submission in was my priority and I'm so glad I was able to finish it! :) The Super Secrets (and the wonderful Wulf Pack) have been super helpful!

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37
Not been here for a while again but I just sent my story for Q1. Maybe I should have four stories though. They sent me four reminders.
But it was an old story-older than I thought actually-that I redid. I worked on a couple of other stories for anthologies and didn't think I had the time to do a new story, especially with NaNo in there. Anyway, I rewrote the opening and a bit more and rewrote sentences, deleted some of the original story and we shall see. I also went back over and tried to smooth out some rough spots but
It now has better writing than it had, but I don't think as good as some stories I sent in that went nowhere. We shall see.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37
Two days to go. Glad to see everyone getting their stories in! Don't miss the deadline. I've submitted right up to the final minutes before close more often than I wish to recall. Sometimes the Wizehive system hangs up in those final minutes. If so, send an email to Joni with your story attached immediately, and tell her the time you submitted when the system locked up. Ask her to confirm submission. She is very understanding and will get it in for this quarter.

Great goal, BeeW. That goal is what finally did it for me. Honestly, winning WotF will get you a strong credit that will help you get attention when you seek to get the novel published. It's a very good idea to get some good short story sales and contest wins.
Congrats to all making the 1st quarter deadline! I hope to see some of you on that stage for Volume 37! As they say at the casino:

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I've never heard of PDF being proper manuscript format. Please don't submit in that format to publishers. In fact, if I were you, I'd put it in Word format and send it off as an attached file in an email to Joni today, explaining the situation and asking that if it's a problem (and I believe it well could be), will she please accept the file you've included as your submission. jonil@authorservicesinc.com
Just a polite note to all. Please don't abuse the privilege to email Joni. She is buried as it is, regulary works until midnight in those offices. Treat her as you would any other professional editor or administrator. Which means necessary business only, and before pushing SEND, it's good to ask, "Is this really necessary?" She has thousands of writers' submissions to keep track of each quarter. And thousands of "I was just wondering if..." Help Joni out by asking here first, and listening to the advice given.
But in your case, BeeW, I'd send Joni your .doc formatted story today.
Best of success,

I submitted today, just under the wire. My story is about 4400 words, which seems a bit short compared to many of you. I've spent a lot of time refining it and so we'll see how it goes....Good fortune, everyone.

Ok, I'm in. At least it's at 2:57pm on the last day instead of 11:48pm like last quarter! Seems prudent to send it in before the New Year drinking time kicks in :)

Thanks for the advice Moon! I just replied to the auto-confirmation (seems to be from the email you listed) from submitting explaining the situation and with a word doc version attached. Fingies crossed.

Re: Discussion: Q1 Volume 37
I'm in with a revised story, with seemingly never-ending fireworks heralding the New Year leading me to put earphones in. Some people reading that will have reason to find it amusing. It's the first time I haven't entered fresh, but the story has more than tripled in length, so it almost feels fresh. It's also my first submission of 2020!
I don't have a KYD flash this month and haven't finished a new second story to submit (I may have a chance with the extended deadline). But, for various reasons, I feel I've done well to enter WotF this quarter.

I forgot to report in when I submitted (December 29th), but I just checked and this was my 49th submission to the contest!!! (48 of them have been consecutive--I haven't missed a quarter since the end of 2007!)
